Hospital-based headache care during the Covid-19 pandemic in Denmark and Norway.

The Covid-19 pandemic is causing changes in delivery of medical care worldwide. It is not known how the management of headache patients was affected by the lockdown during the pandemic. The aim of the present study was to investigate how the initial phase of the Covid-19 pandemic affected the hospital management of headache in Denmark and Norway.

Modified bismuth quadruple therapy with low-dose metronidazole as first-line therapy for Helicobacter pylori infection.

Bismuth-containing quadruple therapy is an effective alternative first-line therapy for Helicobacter pylori infection. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of a modified twice-a-day bismuth quadruple regimen (BQT-2) with low-dose (1000 mg total) metronidazole as first-line therapy for the eradication of H pylori.

Generalized exanthema due to hydroxychloroquine as a popular drug during COVID-19 prophylaxis.

Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is a drug that is used for both chemoprophylaxis and treatment of COVID-19. At the moment, HCQ maintain its popularity and tens of thousands of people across the world are still receiving the current drug. After the COVID-19 pandemic, several cutaneous side effects of HCQ are reported. Herein, we reported generalized exanthema after a single dose of using HCQ. A 58-year-old male patient presented with resistant rashes on his upper extremities and neck region. Rashes appeared all over the body along with severe pruritus just a day after receiving a single 200 mg dose of oral hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 prophylaxis.

Postpartum urinary retention: Absolute risk prediction model.

To evaluate the incidence and assess clinical factors that can predict the occurrence of postpartum urinary retention (PPUR). PPUR is a puerperal condition defined as the inability to void over 6 hours after birth or after catheter removal in case of cesarean section, requiring catheterization. Lack of prompt diagnosis of this condition may lead to severe sequelae, including infection, chronic voiding difficulties, and renal failure.

Anatomic Repair and Reconstruction of Radial Sagittal Band Ruptures.

Two cases of traumatic sagittal band rupture causing extensor tendon subluxation are reported. A case of subacute rupture is repaired and a new surgical technique for reconstruction of a chronic rupture is described. Extensor tendon subluxation at the metacarpophalangeal joint is a rare occurrence in patients not affected by rheumatoid arthritis. The majority of cases involve the disruption of the radial sagittal band with consequent ulnar subluxation of the extensor tendon. The technique of sagittal band reconstruction described involves harvesting a distally based ulnar-sided strip of the extensor digitorum communis tendon, passing it transversely through the radial component of the tendon, and then looping it deep to the deep transverse metacarpal ligament. From here the tendon is then sutured back onto the central tendon, creating a delta-shaped graft. This technique reconstructs the normal anatomy of the sagittal band and has been found to eliminate the subluxation of the tendon and its associated pain.

Marking to weaning production aspects of lambs provided with NSAID analgesia compared with lambs receiving no analgesia at the time of elastrator ring marking.

The provision of analgesia at the time of marking has been adopted by the Australian sheep industry, but data on production benefits are lacking. In the current study, alternate lambs were provided with either meloxicam (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug [NSAID], n = 781) or no analgesia (NONE, n = 822) at the time of ring castration and tail docking. Six distinct management groups of lambs were studied. Lambs were weighed immediately before marking and then again at weaning. There was no significant effect of treatment on average daily gain between marking and weaning in cross-bred lambs. In Merino lambs, average daily gain was 5 g/day lower (P < 0.005) in lambs receiving NSAID, but this may not be biologically significant. Lamb losses were significantly (P < 0.05) lower in the NSAID group (1.1%) than in the NONE group (2.7%). This observation is worth validating in larger studies, particularly considering that lamb mortality is a significant cost to production and welfare concern.

[Headache emergencies are easily overlooked].

This article presents secondary headache syndromes caused by life-threatening disease as well as symptomatic headaches requiring immediate treatment to prevent irreversible deficits. Clinical signs and symptoms indicating a secondary headache syndrome are summarized in the so-called SNOOP list (SNOOP: systemic symptoms, neurological symptoms, acute onset, older patients and previous history). The main topic of this publication is the diagnostic procedure, with a discussion of the pitfalls of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging investigations and the specificities of other methods such as lumbar puncture and duplex sonography.
