This annual award, organized by the Pain, Mind, and Movement Special Interest Group, is for PhD students and early career researchers (up to 3 years post-PhD). It will be attributed to the best-rated paper reporting on work that integrates pain, mind, and movement.

This award aims to create an additional means to value and publicize young scientists’ work and facilitate networking. The award includes a monetary prize that amounts to $1000 USD dollars and the opportunity to present to the IASP community in a PMM-sponsored webinar.

Up to two honorable mentions will also receive a monetary prize of $250 USD and the opportunity to present the work in a PMM-sponsored webinar.

The monetary awards are dependent on the webinar presentation.

Applicants should adhere to the following rules:

  • Applicants must be a member of the PMM SIG.
  • Only one application involving one paper can be submitted per person.
  • The applicant must be the first author (or co-first) on the nominated publication.
  • Papers should be published or accepted for publication in the civil year prior to the year of application submission (i.e., January 1st until December 31st of 2024). If the application concerns a not-yet-published paper, a confirmation of acceptance for publication should be included in the application.
  • Along with the manuscript, the applicant must submit a brief CV (maximum four pages using the IASP template), their IASP membership number, a confirmation of PMM SIG membership, a layman’s terms abstract of the manuscript (up to 250 words), an explanation of how the work brings together pain, mind, and movement and its implications for the pain, mind and movement community (up to 350 words), and a description of the applicant’s personal contribution to the paper (up to 250 words).
  • The submissions will be reviewed by a commission of reviewers appointed by the PMM SIG board, who will choose the winner based on scientific quality, the paper’s fit to the PMM SIG aims, and the applicant’s CV and personal contribution to the paper. All applications will be assessed relative to opportunity.
  • The winner will be expected to present their work in English in a webinar organized by the PMM SIG on an agreed date within 3 months after the award decision has been communicated. The presentation will be followed by a discussion and open to SIG and IASP members.

Submissions should be sent by email to pain.mind.movement@gmail.com.
