Two postdoctoral positions:

Our team of researchers lead internationally competitive research from molecules to medicine across a range of therapeutic areas. Join the team as a Research Fellow and work on defining new cellular targets for the treatment of opioid addiction and chronic pain.  You will work under the supervision of Professor Elena Bagley and will work on defining new cellular targets for the treatment of opioid addiction and chronic pain. You will play a key role using your quantitative and qualitative skills to collect data and work on various research components. As a Research Fellow you will support in the design, development and evaluation of the how opioids alter neural function to support the development of compulsive drug use and chronic pain.

 

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  •  apply and refine expertise in research methodologies
  • undertake original research (either independently or as part of a team) within discipline or area of expertise 
  • contributes and coordinates to the research and administration activities of the discipline 
  • develop research collaborations which will ultimately result in knowledge or technology transfer leading to commercialization, improved policy or practice and/or enhancements to industry 
  • assist with future grant applications and supervision of PhD students. 

You must have:

  • a PhD in in neuroscience or pharmacology or another relevant discipline
  • strong expertise and experience in patch clamp electrophysiology and optogenetics
  • strong expertise and experience in amygdala and/or orbitofrontal cortex physiology
  • strong expertise and experience in endogenous neuromodulator pharmacology
  • strong expertise and experience in animal models of addiction or reward/aversive learning
  • demonstrate a track record of impactful research and publications in their field 
  • demonstrate a strong track record of effectively working in multi-disciplinary teams, industry and professional institutions, health partners, and stakeholders.

Sponsorship/work rights for Australia

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
