Assessment of three-dimensional rotation of the shoulder complex and scapulohumeral rhythm during sagittal movement.

Due to the influence of spinal and respiratory movements, it is difficult to accurately measure the range of motion of each joint.

Significant analgesic benefits of perioperative duloxetine in patients who have depressive symptoms undergoing total hip arthroplasty: A randomized controlled trial.

Major symptoms of depression are commonly observed in patients requiring total hip arthroplasty (THA), and such this is associated with increased pain scores and opioid consumption. We aimed to investigate the analgesic effect of duloxetine in these high-risk patients.

Pain reduction in validated rat pain models: radio frequency spectrum targeted at the low and ultra-low ends using the emulate® delivery system.

EMulate Therapeutics, Inc. (EMTx) has developed a technology to deliver time-varying magnetic fields as WAV files, emitted in the extremely low through the low spectrum of radio frequencies (DC to 22 kHz), that can be applied to regulate pain sensation. These low power fields (~30-70 milli-Gauss AC RMS) are delivered via a portable, light-weight wearable device (Voyager). A contract third-party animal research organization (ANS Biotech, S.A.) specializing in validated rat pain models, ran the studies independently of the authors. Here we report that a subset of signals demonstrated a statistically significant effect in reducing the sensation of pain in rat models for visceral pain, neuropathic pain and inflammatory pain. Furthermore, removing frequencies above 6 kHz in the original signals improve the pain reducing effects of the unmodified signal.

Effectiveness of resisted training through translation of the pelvis in chronic low back pain.

Resisted training of the trunk muscles improves outcomes in chronic low back pain (CLBP). The Itensic b-effect machine was designed to provide resisted training through posterior translation of the pelvis in a seated, forward-tilted position, in contrast with traditional machines that involve extension of the trunk.

A receptor-induced overexpression of pannexin-1 channels indirectly mediates adenosine fibrogenic actions by favouring ATP release from human subcutaneous fibroblasts.

Disorganization of the subcutaneous tissue due to inflammation and fibrosis is a common feature in patients with myofascial pain. Dermal accumulation of adenosine favours collagen production by human subcutaneous fibroblasts (HSCF) via A receptors (AR) activation. Adenosine mimics the fibrogenic effect of inflammatory mediators (e.g. histamine, bradykinin), which promote ATP release from HSCF via plasma-membrane-bound pannexin-1 (Panx1) and/or connexin-43 (Cx43) channels, but this mechanism has never been implicated in AR actions.

Postoperative analgesic effect of dexmedetomidine combined with TPVB applied to open gastrectomy for gastric cancer.

This study is aimed to investigate the analgesic effect of combined dexmedetomidine and thoracic paravertebral nerve block (TPVB) on gastric cancer (GC) patients undergoing open gastrectomy.

SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 Associated Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome A Case Report of Female Twin Adolescents.

"Pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome", or PANS, is a rare syndrome characterized by an acute onset of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and/or severely restricted food intake accompanied by a variety of neuropsychiatric symptoms. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of twin adolescents with COVID-19-associated PANS. Dizygotic twin sisters in late teens, with abrupt and acute onset of severely restrictive food intake, weight loss, OCD, anxiety with intermittent auditory and visual hallucinations, depression, attention deficit, and sleep disturbances, simultaneously accompanied by milder neurologic symptoms such as hand tremor, tinnitus, dizziness, headache, and weakness of proximal muscles, were applied to child and adolescent psychiatry clinic. The only relevant agent underlying those neuropsychiatric and somatic complaints was COVID-19, and it was validated with laboratory testing, such as positive IgG titers of SARS-CoV-2 and negative biomarkers for other possible bacterial or viral agents. Generalized epileptic anomaly and a vermian/folial atrophy in the cerebellum were detected in further evaluations. Treatment options consisted of psychotropic agents, antibiotics, antiepileptic, and intravenous immunoglobulin transfusion finely treated the neuropsychiatric symptoms. Clinicians should consider SARS-CoV-2 as a potential agent, when a child presents with abrupt onset, dramatic neuropsychiatric symptoms also consisting of PANS, even in asymptomatic patients or with mild respiratory symptoms.

Pulsed electromagnetic fields for post-appendicectomy pain management: a randomized, placebo-controlled trial.

The value of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) in postoperative pain management, due to the inconsistent findings so far, remains unclear. We extended the evaluation of PEMF on postoperative pain and intravenous (IV) analgesic use to a group of post-appendicectomy Asian patients.

Scanning before injection for costochondritis: A case report of ultrasound imaging of Hodgkin’s lymphoma with chest wall invasion.

Non-traumatic costochondritis, which manifests as pain and tenderness over the anterior chest wall, may be associated with inflammatory arthritis affecting the upper costochondral and sternocostal joints. Local corticosteroid injection is helpful for recalcitrant cases and ultrasound guidance may not be routinely used by experienced rheumatologists. We report a female patient with pain over the right upper parasternal area with gradual swelling near the first costosternal junction. The ultrasound examination revealed a hyper-vascular mass, which was proven to be Hodgkin's lymphoma. We want to emphasize the importance of using ultrasound for guiding injection for costochondral lesions which facilitated the detection of a tumor invading the chest wall in our case.
