/Objective: The role of trainee involvement in lesioning procedures for trigeminal neuralgia (TN) has not been investigated in the literature. The objective of this study was to compare the complications and efficacy of percutaneous glycerol rhizotomy (GR) as performed by staff neurosurgeons and trainees.

The purpose of the current study was to examine risk factors for depressive symptoms among older adults in rural China. Data were derived from the National Health Services Survey in China. A total of 2,586 rural adults age ≥60 were included in the study. Sociodemographic factors, health risk factors, and behavioral factors were measured, along with self-rated depressive symptoms. Older age (>70 years), lower education level, and living without a partner were associated with depressive symptoms. After adjusting for socioeconomic status and social support, individuals who had at least one chronic disease, experienced pain, and were unable to take care of themselves or perform household chores were more likely to report depressive symptoms (all p < 0.001). Community health care and nursing services should focus on pain control, improvement of daily physical function, and social support for older adults in rural China. Erdafitinib, an oral selective pan-fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) kinase inhibitor, is primarily metabolized by cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2C9 and 3A4. The aim of this phase 1 study was to assess the pharmacokinetics and safety of erdafitinib in healthy participants when coadministered with fluconazole (moderate CYP2C9 and CYP3A inhibitor), and itraconazole (a strong CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein inhibitor). The effect of CYP2C9 genotype variants (*1/*1, *1/*2, *1/*3) on the pharmacokinetics of erdafitinib was also investigated.

Propofol has not been extensively studied as an acute migraine therapy; however, based on the limited evidence from outpatient and inpatient settings, propofol has been proposed as an option for patients who present to the emergency department (ED). The purpose of this review is to evaluate the existing literature regarding the safety and efficacy of propofol for acute migraine treatment in the ED.

Here, we present a case of pituitary adenoma producing adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) in a 19-year-old woman. The patient was admitted to neurosurgery clinic because of a headache and decreased visual acuity. Transsphenoidal resection was performed. Microscopic examination of the tumor revealed signet-ring-like cell areas intermixed with conventional pituitary adenoma cells. Both populations of tumor cells showed immunoreactivity for chromogranin, synaptophysin, and ACTH. To date, there have been 3 reports of pituitary adenoma with signet-ring-like changes. To our knowledge, this is the first case of ACTH-secreting pituitary adenoma with signet-ring-like cell changes. The clinical reflection of signet cells in pituitary adenoma is unclear. Accumulation of the similar cases and investigation of molecular background of them may lighten the importance of this morphologic variance.

One of the drawbacks of subarachnoid block is the short duration of analgesia particularly when adjuvants are not added to local anesthetics agent used. However, dexmedetomidine an αadrenergic agent has been found to possess analgesic effect.

Tendinopathy describes a combination of pain, swelling, and impaired performance of the tendon and around structures. There are various treatment options for tendinopathy with unclear efficacy. Dry needling involves inserting needles into the affected tendon, and it is thought to disrupt the chronic degenerative process and encourage localized bleeding and fibroblastic proliferation. The purpose of this review is to review the use of dry needling as a treatment modality for tendinopathy.

Post-operative pain following excisional haemorrhoidectomy poses a particular challenge for patient recovery, as well as a burden on hospital resources. There appears to be an increasing role for topical agents to improve this pain, but their efficacy and safety have not been fully assessed. This systematic review aims to assess all topical agents used for pain following excisional haemorrhoidectomy.

The aim of the study was to determine the level of sex steroid hormones in white matter of the brain of rats with tumors combined with chronic neurogenic pain (CNP), which was modeled by bilateral sciatic nerve ligation. The study included albino male rats (n=74). In the main group, M1 sarcoma was transplanted subcutaneously (n=11) or into the subclavian vein (n=11) 45 days after CNP modeling. Two comparison groups (n=13 each) included sham operated animals (without CNP) with M1 sarcoma transplanted subcutaneously and intravenously. Control groups included animals with CNP and sham operated animals. Rats were euthanized on day 21 of the carcinogenesis. Levels of total and free testosterone (T), estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), estriol (E3) and progesterone (P4) in the brain white matter were measured using ELISA kits ("Cusabio", China). CNP caused a decrease in the total and free T by 1.5 times (p<0.05), E2 and P4 by 1.9 and 3 times, respectively, E3 by 1.6 times (p<0.05), as well as an increase in E1 by 1.4 times (p<0.05) as compared to the corresponding levels in the brain white matter of rats without CNP. CNP stimulated M1 sarcoma growth in both subcutaneous and intravenous transplantation. Regardless of the tumor site, the dynamics of total T, E2 and E3 in the brain had similar features, but the dynamics of free T, P4 and E1 differed. Thus, changes in the level of neurosteroids in the white matter of rat brain with CNP and tumor growth alone or associated with CNP are a reaction to stress.
