Depression and generalized anxiety symptoms in idiopathic intracranial hypertension: Prevalence, under-reporting and effect on visual outcome.

Abstract

Patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) have been reported to have high prevalence of co-existent mood disorders. We investigated the frequency of symptoms of depression and anxiety in a large cohort of patients with IIH without a known psychiatric diagnosis and compared it with the age- and gender-matched control group. We also studied whether the presence and severity of co-existing mood disorder was related to visual outcome in patients with IIH.
