Oxidative Stress in Fibromyalgia: From Pathology to Treatment.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain associated with sleep problems, fatigue, depression, and anxiety. The persistence of pain, impairment of cognitive function, and negative impact on the psychological state have caused a detrimental effect on the patients' quality of life. However, to date, the treatment and mechanisms of this disease are yet to be established. Oxidative stress might play a critical role in FM pathophysiology. Increased levels of prooxidative factors such as nitric oxide, lipid peroxidation, and mitophagy can cause pain sensitization in fibromyalgia. Numerous studies have supported the hypothesis of beneficial antioxidative effects in FM. Due to the lack of effective therapy for fibromyalgia, many treatments are sought to reduce pain and fatigue and improve patients' quality of life. This manuscript discusses the impact of various antioxidative procedures that can diminish fibromyalgia symptoms, such as hyperbaric oxygen therapy, modification of dietary habits, and physical activity.

Percutaneous endoscopic drainage for acute long segment epidural abscess following endoscopic lumbar discectomy: A case report.

Acute epidural abscess after percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy is a rare but grievous complication. When faced with a long-segment epidural abscess, open surgery has traditionally been performed which can lead to huge surgical trauma and unpredictable complications. For this reason, surgeons around the world are constantly looking for more minimally invasive and effective surgical methods.

Efficacy of the endovascular ovarian vein embolization technique in pelvic venous congestion syndrome.

Pelvic pain, either related or unrelated to menstruation, is especially common in women of reproductive age. Thirty-nine per cent of all women suffer from chronic pelvic pain at some point in their lives, and pelvic venous congestion syndrome (PVCS) is the cause of this pain in 30% of cases. The aim of this study was to determine factors affecting the success of endovascular venous embolization used in the treatment of PVCS, and to present the long-term treatment results.

Application Effect of Laparoscopic Myomectomy and Comprehensive Rehabilitation Nursing on Patients with Uterine Fibroids.

Uterine fibroids are most common in women aged 30-50 and are the most common benign gynecological tumors. Relevant data suggest that about 25% of patients with uterine fibroids are at childbearing age. Uterine fibroids not only cause the discomfort symptoms, and affect the pregnancy, but also have certain malignant transformation risk, thus needed to be treated positively and promptly.

On stimulus persistence and human behavior: the stimulus persistence unification theory.

A person trapped in a building engulfed in a raging fire, a person dealing with severe chronic disease, people dealing with a virus pandemic, and people fighting in a protracted war may appear dissimilar but are fundamentally in a similar situation and their behaviors follow a predictable and similar pattern. In this paper, the behaviors of rational people dealing with a significant persistent unpleasant, or dangerous stimulus that is inescapable are elucidated. The unique modulatory effects of stimulus persistence on human behavior as well as the role of means and interest are discussed.

Cardiac involvement in patients 1 year after recovery from moderate and severe COVID-19 infections.

Some patients suffered persistent cardiac symptoms after hospital discharge following COVID-19 infection, including chest tightness, chest pain, and palpitation. However, the cardiac involvement in these patients remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of COVID-19 infection on the cardiovascular system after 1 year of recovery in patients hospitalized with persistent cardiac symptoms.

Evaluating children with vestibular migraine through vestibular test battery: A cross-sectional investigation.

The present study aimed to investigate the status of vestibular function in children with vestibular migraine of childhood (VMC) reflected by vestibular function test battery and explore the pathophysiological implication of these instrument-based findings.

Neuroinflammation in the medial prefrontal cortex exerts a crucial role in bone cancer pain.

Bone cancer pain (BCP) is one of the most common types of pain in cancer patients which compromises the patient's functional status, quality of life, and survival. Central hyperalgesia has increasingly been identified as a crucial factor of BCP, especially in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) which is the main cortical area involved in the process of pain and consequent negative emotion. To explore the genetic changes in the mPFC during BCP occurrence and find possible targets for prediction, we performed transcriptome sequencing of mPFC in the BCP rat model and found a total of 147 differentially expressed mRNAs (DEmRNAs). A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network revealed that the DEmRNAs mainly participate in the inflammatory response. Meanwhile, microglia and astrocytes were activated in the mPFC of BCP rats, further confirming the presence of neuroinflammation. In addition, Gene Ontology (GO) analysis showed that DEmRNAs in the mPFC are mainly involved in antigen processing, presentation of peptide antigen, and immune response, occurring in the MHC protein complex. Besides, the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis revealed that DEmRNAs are mainly enriched in the pathways of phagosome, staphylococcus aureus infection, and antigen processing, in which MHCII participate. Furthermore, immunostaining showed that MHCII is mainly located in the microglia. Microglia are believed to be involved in antigen processing, a key cause of BCP. , minocycline (MC) treatment inhibits the activation of microglia and reduces the expression of MHCII and proinflammatory cytokines, thereby alleviating BCP and pain-related anxiety. Taken together, our study identified differentially expressed genes in the BCP process and demonstrated that the activation of microglia participates in the inflammatory response and antigen process, which may contribute to BCP.

CHRONIC PAIN AND PHYSICAL THERAPY IN CHILDREN WITH PARALYTIC SYNDROMES: ARE THERE ANY CHANGES DURING LOCKDOWN?

The aim: To evaluate an influence of physical therapy on chronic pain in children with paralytic's syndrome and to maternal emotional status on lockdown time during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Learning from the past to plan for the future: A scoping review of musculoskeletal clinical research in Sweden 2010-2020.

The aims of this study are to 1) determine the scope of musculoskeletal (MSK)-related clinical research in Sweden; 2) collate the amount of first-tier funding received; 3) discuss strategies and infrastructure supporting future MSK clinical trials in Sweden.
