Presented by the IASP Pain and Placebo SIG, the Andrea Evers Legacy Award for Doctoral Research celebrates the legacy of Prof. Andrea Evers, whose research advanced understanding of pain modulation mechanisms with a focus on placebo and expectation-related mechanisms, biopsychosocial influences on pain, and innovative translational approaches to treatment. The award highlights work that combines rigorous basic science with clinical or translational relevance. The award will be presented every two years at the IASP World Congress on Pain.

Criteria for the award

  • Certificate recognizing the achievement
  • Cash award of US $1,000
  • Free registration to the IASP World Congress on Pain

Eligibility requirements

  • The applicant must be a trainee member of both IASP Pain and Placebo at the time of submitting the award application.
  • The dissertation must have been completed within the past three years and under the guidance of senior researchers.
  • Dissertation work must be published or in press in an international refereed journal.

Awardee requirements

If selected, the awardee must attend the IASP World Congress on Pain and the Pain and

Placebo SIG symposium.

Submission requirements

  • PhD dissertation.
  • List of PhD dissertation-related publications
  • A nomination letter from a senior scientist describing the importance of the dissertation, the candidate’s scientific standing, and verification of trainee status.
  • Short-form curriculum vitae (CV) submitted using the IASP template (maximum 4 pages).
  • Submissions must be done online via the submission form and completed by 15 January 2026

Review process

The leadership of the IASP Pain and Placebo SIG will appoint a committee to review the applications. All submissions will be evaluated against the stated eligibility criteria and excellence standards.

Notification

Notification of the award decision will occur a few months before the IASP World Congress, allowing the awardee adequate time to arrange participation in the Congress and SIG symposium.
