Editor’s note: This seminar is the latest event in a series of seminars launched in May 2020 to help keep the pain research community connected during the COVID-19 pandemic and to provide all members of our community with virtual educational opportunities. The seminar series is supported by the Center for Advanced Pain Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas and The MAYDAY Fund.

The IASP Pain Research Forum hosted an Ask Me Anything seminar with Kathleen Sluka, PT, PhD, University of Iowa, Iowa City, US, on April 20, 2021. The session was moderated by Ruth L. Chimenti, DPT, PhD, University of Iowa, US.

About this event

Here is your chance to ask Dr. Kathleen Sluka ANYTHING you want!

Maybe you’d like to ask Kathleen about her lab's latest studies of peripheral and central mechanisms of chronic musculoskeletal pain, including her discoveries of the contributions of macrophages to muscle pain. Perhaps you're interested in her clinical work, including the mechanisms and effectiveness of non-pharmacological pain treatments like transcutaneous electrical stimulation. You might also like to ask her about physical activity/exercise – why is it effective for pain, and how can we get people to do it?

But don't limit your questions only to the science. For instance, you may also wish to ask Kathleen about how she became an artist; her work is receiving a lot of attention, and has already graced the covers of several scientific journals and appeared at neuroscience meetings. As a senior investigator in the field, Kathleen will also have much to say about careers, writing grants, publishing, and more.
