Magnesium sulfate has been reported to be effective in perioperative pain treatment and in blunting somatic, autonomic, and endocrine reflexes provoked by noxious stimuli. The pre-emptive analgesic effects of magnesium in reducing postoperative pain could be beneficial in abdominal and gynecologic surgeries.
