Management of symptomatic portal cavernoma cholangiopathy via transplenic portal vein recanalization and TIPS.

Abstract

Portal cavernoma cholangiopathy (PCC) is defined as an abnormality in the extrahepatic biliary system in patients with portal cavernoma . PCC is usually seen in non-cirrhotic patients secondary to extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO), leading to cavernous formation of the portal system. Complications due to biliary compression include stricture formation, chronic cholestasis, cholelithiasis, cholangitis, and abdominal pain . Management of PCC is limited to symptomatic cases, with a goal of treating biliary complications and decompressing the portal system.
