Since 2004, IASP has increased global awareness around a special aspect of pain through the Global Year campaign. In 2025, the IASP Global Year theme will be: Pain Management, Research, and Education in Low- and Middle-Income (LMIC) Settings.
Throughout 2025, IASP will:
- Identify challenges and opportunities in addressing pain in LMIC settings, including disadvantaged populations in high-income economies.
- Advocate for greater funding for high-quality research that addresses important research gaps, improve pain professional education, and enhance access to high-quality pain management in all contexts.
- Improve clinical training on pain education, promote self-management, and encourage interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary care for chronic pain.
- Foster equity at the community level and on a global scale.
The 2025 Global Year will unite clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and patient advocates worldwide to improve access to high-quality pain care in low- and middle-income settings.
Thirty-five task force members from 23 countries have volunteered to contribute to this campaign. IASP will publish a range of materials and resources to increase awareness and help manage pain in LMIC settings. These will be free and widely available beyond IASP membership, including people living with pain, the public, and policymakers. Materials will include fact sheets, webinars, toolkits, videos, a special collection in PAIN, and other resources to access and share.
