The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and Musculoskeletal Pain SIG is delighted to announce that Dr. Florian Bailly, rheumatologist and head of the Pain Center at Pitié‑Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Musculoskeletal Pain Special Interest Group (SIG) Exchange Award.
This award is designed to support early‑career researchers by providing financial assistance so they can collaborate with a host institute on musculoskeletal pain research. The award helps recipients gain new skills, build independent collaborations and accelerate their professional growth.
Dr. Bailly is a clinician and researcher whose work bridges epidemiology, clinical medicine and pain science. His research expertise spans:
- Chronic low back pain and postoperative pain
- Chronic musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain
- Responsible use of opioids and gabapentinoids
- Health‑care access for people living with pain
Dr. Bailly has coordinated numerous studies on pharmacological and non‑pharmacological management of chronic pain, including development of French national guidelines for low back pain. He is currently a PhD candidate in epidemiology at Sorbonne University’s Pierre Louis Institute of Epidemiology and Public Health, where he is analyzing trends in opioid consumption and opioid‑related hospitalizations. His upcoming postdoctoral work will examine how health‑care access influences opioid use.
IASP congratulates Dr. Florian Bailly on this achievement and thanks all applicants who applied for the 2025 award. The Association remains committed to supporting early‑career researchers and advancing the science and treatment of musculoskeletal pain.
