Management of idiopathic intracranial hypertension in pregnancy.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is more common among women of reproductive age and is often encountered in pregnancy, either pre-existing and exacerbated by pregnancy-associated weight gain and hormonal changes or arising de novo. We report the case of a 33-year-old woman with progressive visual loss and intractable headache from 20 weeks' gestation requiring ventriculoperitoneal shunting during pregnancy. The risk of permanent maternal vision loss raises complex management dilemmas, when this must be balanced with the fetal and neonatal risks of treatment and possible premature delivery.

Rosuvastatin-Induced Dizziness and Pruritus: A Case Report and Summary of Statin-Associated Dizziness and Pruritus.

Drug-associated adverse events can present with varying symptoms, such as dizziness and pruritus. A 48-year-old woman initiated rosuvastatin to treat her elevated triglycerides. She developed rosuvastatin-associated adverse events, which included dizziness and pruritus within two weeks after starting treatment. After stopping the medication, the dizziness immediately cleared; the pruritus diminished during the next two weeks and eventually resolved completely. Side effects associated with rosuvastatin are discussed. The possibility of a medication-related etiology should be entertained when an individual suddenly develops either dizziness or pruritus or both.

Advanced Manual Therapy Approach for the Management of Non-specific Low Back Pain: A Case Report.

The lower back is a complex area, with joints having a very limited range of motion and vast muscular activity. Low back pain is common, and its management depends upon the pain generators. There are various treatment options available, depending on the cause of the pain. In this case, a medical student with pain on a scale of 8/10 on activity came to the physiotherapy department for rehabilitation and pain relief. Her low back pain was chronic and non-specific. The aim of rehabilitation was to reduce the pain and make the patient pain-free. An integrated neuromuscular inhibition technique (INIT), along with a conventional physiotherapy approach, was given to the patient. The integrated neuromuscular inhibition technique can be used to reduce lower back pain and functional disability. After physiotherapy rehabilitation, the range of lumbar flexion improved. In patients presenting with low back pain, early physiotherapy should be started to maintain strength, reduce pain, and reduce functional disability.

Study of the dermal anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and analgesic activity of pinostrobin.

Pinostrobin is a flavanone isolated from (Rottb.) Maas, which is used to treat painful diseases and ailments; indigenous peoples use it as plasters. Different plant species have been reported as a source of this flavonoid, among which are: , , , , , , among others. Pinostrobin expresses potentially useful biological activities such as antioxidant, analgesic, and dermal anti-inflammatory, at low levels nonetheless due to its low solubility. The formation of inclusion complexes deems a good strategy to improve the pharmacologic effects of many substances. In the present work, we evaluated the dermal toxicity, analgesic and dermal anti-inflammatory activity of pinostrobin included in cyclodextrins, to improve those effects on experimental animals. To include pinostrobin, we used two of beta cyclodextrin (βCD) and hydroxypropil beta cyclodextrin (HPβCD) complexes using two methods developed by Benesi-Hildebrand and Higuchi-Connors. Dermal anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated in experimental mice by inhibiting the edema generated by 12-O-tetradecanoylforbol-13-acetate (TPA). Analgesic activity was evaluated by inducing chemical pain by means of a Siegmund test. Antioxidant activities were measured with two tests. Analgesic and dermal anti-inflammatory activities of pinostrobin, as included in control and experimental complexes, showed comparatively better effects than pinostrobin without inclusion complexes. Our results indicate that both beta cyclodextrin (βCD) and hydroxypropyl beta cyclodextrin (HPβCD) enhance the different effects of pinostrobin, which may indicate greater bioavailability.
