Examining the Relationship Between Sleep Apnea Diagnosis and Suicide Risk in Veterans With Traumatic Brain Injury: A VA TBI Model Systems Study.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep disorder in people with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Although sleep disturbances have been associated with an increased risk of suicide compared with the general population, the relationship between OSA and suicide risk after TBI is not well documented. In this study, we hypothesized that OSA diagnosis would predict suicide risk in veterans with TBI.

Dermatological manifestations of hematologic neoplasms. Part II: nonspecific skin lesions/paraneoplastic diseases.

Cutaneous manifestations occur in the course of hematologic malignancies and precede, accompany or occur late in relation to the diagnosis. They result from paraneoplastic phenomena, tumor infiltrations, immunosuppression resulting from the hematologic disease itself or its treatment. The dermatologist must be aware of these conditions that may be helpful both in the diagnosis of the underlying disease and in reducing patient morbidity. This review (part II) addresses the paraneoplastic dermatological changes associated with systemic hematologic malignancies.

Does baseline EEG activity differ in the transition to or from a chronic pain state?

Identifying EEG brain markers might yield better mechanistic insights into how chronic pain develops and could be treated. An existing longitudinal EEG study gave us the opportunity to determine whether the development of pain is accompanied by less alpha power-ie, a 'relaxed' brain state-and vice versa.

Postoperative seizure freedom after vagus nerve stimulator placement in children 6 years of age and younger.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for vagus nerve stimulator (VNS) implantation is limited to patients older than 4 years of age with medically refractory partial-onset seizures. In younger children with severe generalized epilepsy, however, VNS implantation remains off-label. In this study, the authors followed up on their previously reported cohort to review the longer-term safety and efficacy of VNS placement in children younger than 6 years with generalized medically refractory epilepsy (MRE), providing the largest cohort with > 2 years of follow-up to date in this age group.

Migraine among adults with atopic dermatitis: a cross-sectional study in the All of Us research programme.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) has been previously associated with migraine headaches in paediatric and adolescent populations, though there is less evidence for this relationship among adults. In this cross-sectional study, we investigated the association between AD and migraine among a cohort of US adults in the All of Us research programme. After controlling for common comorbidities, we found that adults with AD were 89% more likely to have a diagnosis of migraine (OR = 1·89, P < 0·001).

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy for long COVID (HOT-LoCO), an interim safety report from a randomised controlled trial.

With ~ 50 million individuals suffering from post-COVID condition (PCC), low health related quality of life (HRQoL) is a vast problem. Common symptoms of PCC, that persists 3 months from the onset of COVID-19 are fatigue, shortness of breath and cognitive dysfunction. No effective treatment options have been widely adopted in clinical practice. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) is a candidate drug.
