Exploring Anti-Fungal, Anti-Microbial and Anti-Inflammatory Properties of a Topical Non-Steroidal Barrier Cream in Face and Chest Seborrheic Dermatitis.

The pathogenesis of seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is multifactorial and traditional treatments may not target all aspects of it. The aim of this study was to evaluate short-term anti-fungal, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-pruritus properties of a novel non-steroidal cream (NSC) containing piroctone olamine, zinc salt of L-pyrrolidone carboxylate (PCA), hydroxyphenyl propamidobenzoic acid, biosaccharide gum-2 and stearyl glycyrrhetinate in patients with face and chest SD.

Is Scapular Stabilization Exercise Effective for Managing Nonspecific Chronic Neck Pain?: A Systematic Review.

Scapular stabilization is thought to have an important role in improving pain and dysfunction around the neck and shoulders, but evidence of this is lacking. We aim to systematically review the effect of a scapular stabilization exercise (SSE) on pain and dysfunction in patients with nonspecific chronic neck pain (NP). We searched the PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library databases using the terms (NP [MeSH] OR NP OR cervical pain OR neck ache OR cervicalgia) AND (scapular exercise OR periscapular exercise OR SSEs). We included suitable studies that met the study's inclusion criteria. Among the 227 studies identified by our search strategy, a total of four (three randomized controlled studies and one prospective study) met the inclusion criteria. The SSE was intense. It included three sets of 10 repetitions. In most of the studies, the exercises were conducted 3 times per week. Most studies reported that the SSE improved pain and dysfunction in patients with nonspecific chronic NP; however, the reviewed articles did not use the same variables for measurement. Additionally, the sample size was small. Although several studies show that SSE might improve NP and dysfunction, the effects of SSE on pain and dysfunction in the neck region remain unclear because the number of studies was small. Further high-quality studies are necessary to identify the detailed effects of SSE in patients with NP.

Laser acupuncture for refractory coccydynia after traumatic coccyx fracture: A case report.

Coccyx fracture is an injury usually caused by trauma. In most cases, the fractures recover after conservative therapy. For refractory cases that exhibit coccydynia after more than 2 months of conservative treatment, coccygectomy is indicated. However, limited information about the efficacy of this procedure is available, and it is known to have a high complication rate. As such, other therapeutic approaches are needed. Here, we report our experience using another conservative treatment option, low-level laser therapy, to successfully reduce refractory coccydynia in a patient with coccyx fracture.

Analgesic Impact of Single-Shot Versus Continuous Femoral Nerve Block After Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Efficient pain management after total knee arthroplasty will accelerate functional recovery and reduce the length of hospital stay. The femoral nerve block is increasingly used in clinical practice owing to its favorable analgesic efficacy. However, the effect of continuous femoral nerve block compared to single-shot femoral nerve block remains controversial.

A case report of an acute coronary syndrome in a 10-year-old boy with homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia.

Familial hypercholesterolaemia is a well-known disorder, but clinical diagnoses tend to be delayed. Acute coronary syndrome may occur in childhood.

[Analgesic effect of Fengshi Qutong Capsules on mice with chronic inflammatory pain caused by complete Freund’s adjuvant].

The aim was to observe the analgesic effect of Fengshi Qutong Capsules(FSQTC) on chronic inflammatory pain in mice, and investigate its effect on p-ERK/COX-2 signal molecular activity. A model of chronic inflammatory pain was induced in mice by complete Freund's adjuvant(CFA). The mice were divided into normal control group, model group, model+FSQTC 0.3, 0.6 and 1.2 g·kg~(-1 )groups, model+positive control drug ibuprofen(IBP, 0.34 mg·kg~(-1)·d~(-1)) group, and normal control+ FSQTC 1.2 g·kg~(-1)group. FSQTC or IBP was given once a day by oral administration. Standard Von Frey fiber was used to evaluate the mechanical pain threshold, and the acetone stimulation was used to induce inflammatory plantar and observe the cold pain reaction scores. The mechanical pain threshold and cold pain reaction scores were observed before administration and 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 h after administration on the first day, as well as 3 h after administration on the 3 rd to 7 th day. The protein levels of PGE_2, COXs-1,2 and p-ERK in the spinal cord of the inflammatory foot and lumbar 4-5 were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, Western blot, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. The results showed that the mechanical pain threshold of the model group decreased and the cold pain reaction score increased as compared with the normal group. FSQTC application could dose-dependently increase the mechanical pain threshold and decrease the cold pain reaction score. The effect lasted for 6 h, most significant at 3 h. The effect of ibuprofen was similar to that of the 0.6 g·kg~(-1) dose group. In addition, FSQTC could reduce the abnormally increased protein content of PGE_2, COX-2 and p-ERK in the inflammatory foot and/or spinal cord of the model group, and the effect was most significant in middle and high dose groups. However, it had no effect on COX-1 in the inflammatory foot and spinal cord of mice. The results suggest that FSQTC has ob-vious analgesic effect on chronic inflammatory pain in mice, which may be related to inhibition of p-ERK/COX-2 signaling pathway.

Patient experience with non-invasive vagus nerve stimulator: gammaCore patient registry.

gammaCore is cleared by the FDA for acute and preventive treatment of cluster headache and the acute treatment of migraine in adults. Previously, only 2 treatments were approved for acute treatment of cluster headache while none were approved for preventive treatment. Following the initial FDA clearance, based on the ACT-1 and ACT-2 studies, a gammaCore Patient Registry (GPR) was designed to provide insights on the use of gammaCore and prescription patterns in the real-world setting and to characterize respective benefits and challenges during the acute treatment of episodic cluster headache. GPR was a prospective observational registry in which patients with episodic cluster headache (3rd edition of the International Classification of Headache Disorders criteria) who were prescribed gammaCore were invited to voluntarily enroll and provide information on their experiences between July 2017 and June 2018. Participants provided baseline information and were trained to self-administer treatment with gammaCore for cluster pain. Participants were also requested to record information for each cluster attack. Of the 182 patients who provided baseline demographic and cluster headache characteristics, 152 provided health index baseline data using EuroQol Health Index tool, 5-level format (EQ5D-5L) and 17 patients provided attack data on a total of 192 cluster headache attacks. The mean age was 49 years; 65% were male and 82% were white; the mean number of months of known diagnosis of cluster headache was 57; the mean number of attacks per cluster headache 4-week period was 14; and the mean pain score was 3.7 (0-4 scale) with a mean attack duration of 74 minutes. Sixty-seven percent of patients had used preventive treatments and 83% had used abortive treatments for cluster headaches; 25% of participants reported at least 1 comorbidity. The mean EQ5D-5L score (scale 0-1) was 0.83. Of the 192 cluster headache attacks reported, gammaCore was used in 116 (60%) attacks. Within this group, the mean pain score at the start of the attacks was 2.7, the mean number of stimulations used was 3.6, and the pain score after 30 minutes was 1.3. At 30 minutes, the pain of 81 (70%) attacks was reduced to none (27%) or mild (43%) (a pain score of 0 or 1) and in 94 (81%) attacks, patients experienced a reduction of at least 1 point in the pain score. This real-world observational evidence suggests that gammaCore adds clinically meaningful value to patients with episodic cluster headache by providing rapid pain relief and confirms that there is significant interest among prescribers in providing this new treatment and technology. This evidence further supports the need to redefine gammaCore as no longer investigational or experimental during considerations for reimbursement.
