Delayed symptomatic spinal adhesive arachnoiditis after surgery for thoracolumbar flexion-distraction injury: A case report.

Adhesive arachnoiditis is an uncommon lesion caused by an inflammatory reaction in spinal nerves. Reports of substantial symptomatic thoracolumbar (TL) adhesive arachnoiditis after spinal surgery are rare. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first presentation of delayed adhesive arachnoiditis with cauda equina syndrome after decompression and fusion for a traumatic TL flexion-distraction injury.

Critical illness-associated cerebral microbleeds in severe COVID-19 infection.

Neurologic complications of COVID-19 infection have been recently described and include dizziness, headache, loss of taste and smell, stroke, and encephalopathy. Brain MRI in these patients have revealed various findings including ischemia, hemorrhage, inflammation, and demyelination. In this article, we report a case of critical illness-associated cerebral microbleeds identified on MRI in a patient with severe COVID-19 infection and discuss the potential etiologies of these neuroimaging findings.

Transiting Nerve Rootlet Abnormalities on MRI after Lumbar Laminectomy: Associations with Persistent Postoperative Pain.

To determine whether changes in the transiting nerve rootlet or its surroundings, as seen on MRI performed after lumbar hemilaminectomy, are associated with persistent postoperative pain (PPP), commonly known as the failed back surgery syndrome.

The Role of Ultrasound Therapy in the Management of Musculoskeletal Soft Tissue Pain.

Ultrasound is an invaluable physical modality widely used for diagnosis and therapy in humans and animals. It is noninvasive, atraumatic, and may be used repeatedly. As a therapeutic tool, ultrasound has been in use for some 6 decades. Therapeutic ultrasound (TUS) is used for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, including acute soft tissue injuries, overuse syndromes, as well as chronic orthopedic and rheumatologic conditions. The aim of this review was to investigate the clinical effectiveness of TUS in musculoskeletal acute and chronic pain, mainly through the control of inflammation and the promotion of soft tissue injury healing. Based on the evidence presented, TUS is clinically effective in some musculoskeletal soft tissue pain conditions, but due to conflicting results in some studies, no specific positive recommendations can be made, nor does it permit exclusion of TUS from clinical practice. In phonophoresis, TUS plays a significant role, without reported adverse effects. There is scope for improving the evidence base with better designed studies.

A relational database to identify differentially expressed genes in the endometrium and endometriosis lesions.

Endometriosis is a common inflammatory estrogen-dependent gynecological disorder, associated with pelvic pain and reduced fertility in women. Several aspects of this disorder and its cellular and molecular etiology remain unresolved. We have analyzed the global gene expression patterns in the endometrium, peritoneum and in endometriosis lesions of endometriosis patients and in the endometrium and peritoneum of healthy women. In this report, we present the EndometDB, an interactive web-based user interface for browsing the gene expression database of collected samples without the need for computational skills. The EndometDB incorporates the expression data from 115 patients and 53 controls, with over 24000 genes and clinical features, such as their age, disease stages, hormonal medication, menstrual cycle phase, and the different endometriosis lesion types. Using the web-tool, the end-user can easily generate various plot outputs and projections, including boxplots, and heatmaps and the generated outputs can be downloaded in pdf-format.Availability and implementationThe web-based user interface is implemented using HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, Plotly and R. It is freely available from https://endometdb.utu.fi/ .

Relationship Between Sensory Symptoms, Mulder’s Sign, and Dynamic Ultrasonographic Findings in Morton’s Neuroma.

Morton's neuroma (MN) is often a diagnostic dilemma lacking a gold standard set of diagnostic criteria. Advanced imaging of MN is evolving including ultrasonography. The current study aimed to analyze the relationship between ultrasonographic findings and symptoms, clinical data, and operative findings in a subgroup of patients.
