Malignant melanotic nerve sheath tumors (MMNSTs) are rare tumors of presumed neural crest origin. Here, we present a 21-year-old female with a left L5/S1 MMNST along with a review of approximately 70 spinal cases reported in the literature, the majority of which were either local recurrences or metastases.

Lymphoepithelioma-like gastric carcinoma (LELGC) constitutes 1-4% of all gastric carcinomas and gastrointestinal involvement in leukemia can be present in up to 25%, being more common in acute than chronic leukemia, affecting most frequently the stomach, ileum, and proximal colon. LELGC is usually associated with a better prognosis than other gastric carcinomas, generally presenting with low T and N stages. The reports of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) involving infiltration of the gastrointestinal tract are relatively rare in the literature, and the estimated incidence ranges from 5.7% to 25%. We present the case of a 77-year-old female, on surveillance by a known CLL that was diagnosed with gastric carcinoma on an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) performed for epigastric pain. A subtotal gastrectomy was performed and the surgical specimen revealed simultaneous involvement of the stomach by LELGC and CLL. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a LELGC and CLL simultaneously involving the stomach.

Endometriosis, defined as the growth of endometrial glands and stromal cells in a heterotopic location under the cyclic influence of ovarian hormones, is a common gynecological disorder manifested by chronic pelvic pain and infertility. In traditional Chinese medicine, endometriosis is characterized by stagnation of vital energy (qi) and blood stasis. Guizhi Fuling Wan (GFW) was first described in Chinese canonical medicine to treat disorders associated with stagnation of qi and blood stasis, including endometriosis. Therefore, the current study aimed to test the effects of combining GFW with western medicine on the suppression of endometriosis.

Although the etiology of granuloma annulare (GA) remains unknown, it has been associated with many reported triggers, including chronic medical illnesses and malignancy. Herein, we present a case of an elderly man with diabetes who has a generalized variant of granuloma annulare. The patient had a six-month history of multiple skin-colored, scattered, itchy papules disseminated over the trunk. Clinical features with histological findings are described. Therefore, this case report aimed to present a rare type of diffuse, eruptive granuloma annulare.

The objective of this study was to analyze the feasibility and acceptance of a non-invasive, daily and proactive screening program for SARS-CoV-2 infection employing serial saliva testing, in combination with a digital questionnaire among healthcare providers (HCPs) in a multi-professional setting.

The review is devoted to complex treatment of chronic pancreatitis considering modern data on pathogenesis of this disease. The authors analyze various aspects of endoscopic and surgical interventions in refractory pain syndrome and complications of chronic pancreatitis, as well as positive and negative aspects of each method. Various surgical interventions and indications are analyzed in detail. One of the important points was analysis of the period between disease onset and surgical treatment that affects quality of life in patients with chronic pancreatitis in mid- and long-term period.

Local anesthesia is essential in dentistry in providing intraoperative analgesia and anesthesia. However, knowledge related to its use for management of post-operative pain is limited. Perioperative pain management is especially important for root canal treatment (ie, endodontic therapy), performed by endodontists. In this study, we sought to better understand endodontists' attitudes regarding the use of long-lasting anesthetic, namely 0.5% bupivacaine HCl with 1:200,000 epinephrine, for the management of post-endodontic pain. Additionally, we aimed to understand the perspectives of dental patients about receiving longer lasting anesthesia for endodontic therapy and to determine factors that affect their anesthetic preferences within the orofacial region.

We aim to report a patient with vertebral brown tumor in the context of a primary hyperparathyroidism presented by shoulder pain. This is the first report of C5 brown tumor involvement in a primary hyperparathyroid patient and emphasizes the consideration of cervical vertebral evaluation in patients with persistent shoulder pain.

Acoustic neuromas are the most common lesion in the cerebellopontine angle. The authors report a unique case of acoustic schwannoma, presenting in middle cranial fossa masquerading as meningioma in a 24-year-old man, presenting with headache and focal seizures. Contrast-enhanced MRI of the brain revealed a mass lesion of the right middle cranial fossa consistent with features of meningioma. Intraoperatively a well-defined tumor with attachment to anterior petrous bone was excised. In the immediate postoperative period, the patient developed right-sided hearing loss, which was proven to be retrochoclear hearing loss on brainstem evoked response audiometry. Histopathology findings were consistent with benign schwannoma. Acoustic schwannoma originating in an unusual location middle cranial fossa is a plausible explanation of such unusual occurrence. Such a case has never been reported in the literature.

The COVID-19 pandemic started a little later in Ethiopia than the rest of the world and most of the initial cases were reported to have a milder disease course and a favorable outcome. This changed as the disease spread into the population and the more vulnerable began to develop severe disease. Understanding the risk factors for severe disease in Ethiopia was needed to provide optimal health care services in a resource limited setting.
