I am a behavioral health scientist, interested in the transition from acute to chronic pain from a affective-motivational perspective. Through experimental designs using behavioral paradigms in humans, I wish to disentangle how individuals adjust to the unusual experience of chronic pain via associative learning, and pain avoidance learning in particular. I highly value translational research and contribute to the development of customized cognitive-behavioral treatments to the benefit of those who suffer chronic pain. Besides applying traditional group-based randomized clinical trials, I also am excited about the new window of opportunities with single-case experimental designs, thereby bridging the scientist-practitioner gap. I have been predominantly funded by the Flemish Government, Belgium, the Research Foundation–Flanders, Belgium (FWO), and the European Commission.
