I am a public health physician and pain epidemiologist, whose work has made a major contribution to understanding how pain conditions affect populations, and also to the growing recognition of pain as a major public health problem and as the leading contributor to the global burden of disability. I have also worked in promoting the uptake and use of research evidence in pain education, and in global and national health policy.
