I graduated in Physical Therapy from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in 1999 and later earned both my master’s and PhD degrees at the sameinstitution, focusing on the impact of neuropathic pain in patients with leprosy. More recently, I further expanded my expertise by obtaining a degree in DataScience and Artificial Intelligence. I am currently a professor in the Physical Therapy program at the Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro, an adjunct professor inthe School of Physical and Occupational Therapy at Faculty of Medicine, McGill University in Canada, and a visiting professor at Vrije University Brussels inBelgium.
My research interests lie in the intersection of chronic pain, emotion, behavior, and pain education for both professionals and patients. I have explored the paincurricula for healthcare professionals and developed educational resources aimed at empowering patients with knowledge about pain management. Recently,my research has expanded to include the integration of artificial intelligence models into Physical Therapy, with a particular focus on musculoskeletal pain.Beyond research, I am deeply engaged in the academic community, coordinating the “Pesquisa em Dor” research group in Brazil and contributing to theinternational “Pain in Motion” research group in Belgium.
