Malignant giant cell tumors of the tendon sheath of the right hip: A case report.

Malignant giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath (MGCTTS) is an extremely rare malignant tumor originating from synovial and tendon sheath tissue with highly aggressive biological behavior and a high rate of local recurrence and distant metastasis which should be considered a highly malignant sarcoma and managed aggressively. How to systemically treat MGCTTS remains a challenge. In this case, a patient with MGCTTS suffered a recurrence after 2 surgical resections received adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy, but the treatment outcome remained poor. More clinical trials and better understanding of the biology and molecular aspects of this subtype of sarcoma are needed while novel medicines should be developed to efficiently target particular pathways.

Immune checkpoint inhibitor-associated arthritis in advanced pulmonary adenocarcinoma: A case report.

With the wide application of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in cancer treatment, immune-related adverse events occur frequently, involving almost all organs and systems. The incidence of ICI-associated arthritis (IA) is unknown. In most cases, IA is not serious and non-lethal. Higher checkpoint inhibitor arthritis disease activity may be associated with cancer progression. Here, we report a severe case of IA with high arthritis disease activity in advanced pulmonary adenocarcinoma, causing permanent withdrawal of pembrolizumab, but the patient remained in complete remission (CR) 20 mo after the development of IA.

Rapid and Label-Free Methanol Identification in Alcoholic Beverages Utilizing a Textile Grid Impregnated with Chiral Nematic Liquid Crystals.

Methanol contamination of alcoholic drinks can lead to severe health problems for human beings including poisoning, headache, blindness, and even death. Therefore, having access to a simple and inexpensive way for monitoring beverages is vital. Herein, a portable, low cost, and easy to use sensor is fabricated based on the exploitation of chiral nematic liquid crystals (CLCs) and a textile grid for detection of methanol in two distinct alcoholic beverages: red wine and vodka. The working principle of the sensor relies on the reorientation of the liquid crystal molecules upon exposure to the contaminated alcoholic beverages with different concentrations of methanol (0, 2, 4, and 6 wt %) and the changes in the observed colorful textures of the CLCs as well as the intensity of the output light. The proposed sensor is label free and rapid.

Drug-induced esophagitis and helpful management for healthcare providers.

In recent decades, the number of cases developing drug-induced esophagitis (DIE) has reportedly been growing, which indicates the significance of detecting medicines capable of causing this adverse reaction. This study aims to provide an updated review on recent case reports of DIE, to evaluate the possible mechanism of this side effect, and to provide helpful management. Data was gathered through searches of three databases, namely PubMed, Medline, and Cochrane. Seven drug categories were evaluated: antibiotics, bisphosphonates, cardiovascular medicines, chemotherapeutic agents, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), other medications, and supplements. According to the findings, retrosternal pain, heartburn, odynophagia, and dysphagia are typical symptoms of DIE, and in most cases, DIE is a self-limiting side effect which can be resolved by removing the causative agent and providing supportive therapy.

Education case: a case-based approach to overlap syndromes in autoimmune liver disease in patient with ulcerative colitis.

Simultaneous occurrence of immune-based gastrointestinal diseases and autoimmune hepatitis, although not common, is of clinical importance. Some clinical and laboratory findings such as severe pruritus and elevated alkaline phosphatase raise suspicion of a biliary disease which overlaps autoimmune hepatitis. A strong clinical suspicion of overlap syndrome in a patient with autoimmune hepatitis prompts more diagnostic evaluations like MRCP, liver biopsy, and secondary laboratory tests. Patients who fall into the category of overlap syndrome proceed with timely monitoring of known complications including colorectal carcinomas, cholangiocarcinomas, and gallbladder cancers. It is strongly recommended that all simultaneous immune-based involvements be searched prior to labeling a patient as having pure autoimmune hepatitis. The current study attempted to express all challenges about a case with overlap syndrome referred to the gastroenterology ward of Taleghani Hospital and to review the latest articles and related guidelines about the diagnosis, treatment, complications, and surveillance of the mentioned patient with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

LIST: A Newly Developed Laser-assisted Cell Bioprinting Technology.

Cell bioprinting technologies aim to fabricate tissue-like constructs by delivering biomaterials layer-by-layer. Bioprinted constructs can reduce the use of animals in drug development and hold promise for addressing the shortage of organs for transplants. We recently introduced a laser-assisted drop-on-demand bioprinting technology termed Laser Induced Side Transfer (LIST). This technology can print delicate cell types, including primary neurons. This bioprinting protocol includes the following key steps: cell harvesting, bio-ink preparation, laser setup priming, printing, and post-printing analysis. This protocol includes a detailed description of the laser setup, which is a rather unusual setup for a biology lab. This should allow easy reproduction by readers with basic knowledge of optics. Although we have focused on neuron bioprinting, interested readers will be able to adapt the protocol to bioprint virtually any cell type.
