2026 Neuropathic Pain
Aims and Objectives

The IASP 2026 Global Year will explore neuropathic pain and its impact on millions of people worldwide, including challenges and best practices in its diagnosis and treatment, and the significant disability and reduced quality of life it can cause.

The 2026 Global Year on Neuropathic Pain presents an opportunity to reflect on what we currently know, examine the strengths and limitations of available treatments and gaps in knowledge, and consider priorities for future research and potential therapies. In particular, we will focus on (1) optimizing rigorous pre-clinical and clinical research to expand the available scientific evidence and (2) encouraging research that rigorously explores the potential for precision medicine for neuropathic pain.

Outputs for the 2026 IASP Global Year

Outputs will include Fact Sheets and webinars or videos. Relevant research papers in PAIN and PAIN Reports will be highlighted.

Our 2026 Global Year goals are to, in collaboration with our Federations and Chapters:

  • Raise global awareness about neuropathic pain and its impact on individuals and communities by providing evidence-based educational resources to healthcare professionals, patients, and the public
  • Encourage the use of rigorous research methodologies and cross-disciplinary collaborations to advance our understanding of neuropathic pain and the potential for improved treatment, including precision medicine
  • Promote policy initiatives and advocacy efforts to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of neuropathic pain worldwide
