Australia/New Zealand
The IASP chapters in Australia (Australia Pain Society) and New Zealand (New Zealand Pain Society), in collaboration with the Faculty of Pain Medicine Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and PainAustralia, created their own poster in support of the Global Year Against Headache.
Pakistan
During the months of December 2011 and January 2012, the Society of Treatment and Study of Pain (STSP, IASP chapter) held symposia in Karachi, Nawabshah, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawar, and Mutan, Pakistan. Organizers include Dr. Safia Zafar, Dr. Salah, Dr. Salman, and Dr. Asif Gul. In Karachi on January 12-14, 2012, roughly 500 professionals attended an International Pain Conference with a focus on headache in Karachi.
Europe
Germany
IASP joined forces with the International Headache Society (IHS) to organize a joint headache symposium on October 5-7, 2012, in Hamburg, Germany. This event encouraged young scientists to get involved, offering invaluable networking opportunities, and cementing the collaborative relationship between IASP and IHS. The symposium featured renowned headache experts from around the world and was essential for anyone interested in the study and treatment of headache.
Spain
On Monday, October 17, 2011, the Sociedad Española del Dolor (SED, IASP chapter) hosted its annual Día Mundial Contra el Dolor in Madrid. The event included talks by the SED leadership and award presentations for a short film contest. Visit the SED website for more information: www.sedolor.es
United Kingdom
From September 20-23, 2012, the Migraine Trust and the European Headache Federation joined together to present the 3rd European Headache and Migraine Trust International Congress in London, UK. EHMTIC 2012 was intended for neurologists, physicians, scientists, researchers, and international experts and healthcare professionals with an interest in migraine and headache disorders.
In conjunction with EHMTIC 2012, the Italian Society for the Study of Headaches (SISC) awarded the Enrico Greppi Award 2012 to the author of the best unpublished original paper dealing with clinical, epidemiological, genetic, pathophysiological or therapeutic aspects of headache. The prize amounted to €10,000 and was open to researchers of all nationalities.

Brazil
The Sociedade Brasileira para o Estudo da Dor (SBED, IASP chapter) created a colorful poster in support of the Global Year Against Headache.
Cuba
The Cuban Association for the Study and Treatment of Pain hosted their third thematic colloquium during the week of April 23-27, 2012. This year they dedicated it to the Global Year Against Headache. The first three days of the meeting included practical training, such as how to conduct consultations with patients experiencing pain, and conversations with Anesthesiology residents who spend two months of their internships focusing on the study and treatment of the pain. Over the course of the last two days, 16 lecturers presented a total of 21 talks about headaches. Forty people, including anesthesiologists/algologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, biochemists, pharmacologists, and chemical investigators, attended the colloquium to discuss and debate each topic.
North America
Canada
An interdisciplinary team lead by Patrick McGrath, PhD, and Anna Huguet Rosello, PhD, at the Centre for Research in Family Health developed a distance psychosocial intervention for adolescents and young adults with recurrent headaches. This so-called Wireless Headache Intervention (WHI) is delivered entirely via the iPhone and the computer. This app allows patients to conveniently track their headaches and provides helpful reports.
