Interdisciplinary Workshop Held in Rwanda

Sep 25, 2019

IASP Councilors Dr. Hellen Kariuki (Kenya) and Dr. Mary Cardosa (Malaysia), conducted a 1-day workshop in Kigali, Rwanda on September 17, 2019 in conjunction with the 6th Annual African Palliative Care Conference.

The workshop aimed to increase the understanding and sharing of lessons and experiences on pain concepts and the basics of interdisciplinary pain management for health care workers in Africa. It covered pain topics relevant to daily clinical practice, education and advocacy for pain management. Attendees were able to share best practices for pain management in Africa, successes in pain management education, and patient-level outcomes to improve pain management. Attendees brainstormed ways to develop multidisciplinary pain management infrastructure or to enhance existing infrastructure in their countries and formed relationships which will foster south to south and north to south collaboration in achieving pain relief in Africa.

This course was supported by IASP through an unrestricted grant from Pfizer Independent Grants for Learning & Change.
