Sep 25, 2019
A 5-member, international advisory group representing IASP led by Dr. Mary Cardosa (Malaysia), completed a 5-day face-to-face training course for a multidisciplinary group of 31 medical specialists, surgeons, physiotherapists, and a nurse in Yangon, Myanmar, September 2-6, 2019. Prof. Khin Myo Hla, President of the Myanmar Society for the Study of Pain (MSSP), and Head, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Yangon General Hospital hosted the course.
The course was aimed at training the local health care professionals in the development and implementation of a multidisciplinary pain center that would operate in an interdisciplinary manner. The training included skills for teaching patients how to self-manage their chronic pain. The week was very successful, with all participants being assessed as improving their competence in the skills taught and plans were made for follow-up training and further support.
This course was supported by IASP through an unrestricted grant from Pfizer Independent Grants for Learning & Change.
