In the fourth of a series of webinars for the 2018 Global Year for Excellence in Pain Education, IASP will host an "Education Innovations to Improve Provider Knowledge to Care for Older Persons with Pain" webinar with Keela Herr, PhD, RN (University of Iowa, USA); Thomas Hadjistavropoulos, PhD (University of Regina, Canada); and Patricia Schofield, PhD, RN (Anglia Ruskin University, UK).
The webinar will take place on Thursday, October 25 from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Eastern (US) time (5:00 PM – 6:00 PM BST/ 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM CEST).

This webinar is designed to provide the learner with exemplars of approaches to enhance provider knowledge regarding best practices for pain assessment and management in older persons through the use of innovative education approaches. Following completion of the webinar, the learner will be able to:
- Discuss the role of provider education in improving pain practices, including the US NIH Centers of Excellence in Pain Education (CoEPE) initiative and staff education initiatives in Canada, to address knowledge gaps.
- Identify two global exemplars to education of health care providers, both pre-licensure trainees and providers in practice, to improve pain care for older persons, considering benefits and challenges.
- Recognize resources available to support education of health professionals on best practices for pain management in older persons.
