IASP Presents at Joint Session on Appropriate Opioid Use at ISPRM Congress
Jun 12, 2017
More than 1,800 participants from 79 countries attended 11th World Congress of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) in Buenos Aires last month, the theme of which was “Share Knowledge to Reduce Disabilities.” Specialists in physical medicine and rehabilitation, pain medicine, neurology, physical therapy, psychology, rehabilitation scientists, nursing, residents in training, and medical students were among the delegates.
The congress featured a joint session with IASP, “Use and Abuse of Opioids in the Management of Chronic Pain,” coordinated by Dr. Walter Frontera, president-elect of ISPRM. IASP was represented by Dr. João Garcia, councilor and liaison for Latin America, who gave the lecture “Is There a Crisis in the Use of Opioids in the World?” After the presentation, delegates participated in a lively discussion on this important current issue.
This is the first collaboration between ISPRM and IASP in a World Congress, and the two organizations plan to repeat the effort at all future ISPRM congresses.
