10 Years of the Declaration of Montreal

Jun 25, 2020

On September 3, 2010, 260 delegates representing 62 countries came together at the first International Pain Summit. As a result of the meeting, the Declaration of Montreal, proclaiming that access to pain management is a “fundamental human right”, was generated. 2020 is the 10-year anniversary of the signing of this important milestone for the pain community. This document, in addition to the 2019 approval by the World Health Organization of new codes for chronic pain, developed by IASP, for inclusion in the latest revision of the International Classification of Diseases [ICD-11], helps to promote pain management and acceptance of chronic pain as a disease in its own right throughout the world.
