CHAPTER LEADERSHIP

President: Dr Michelle Roche (Basic Science)

22 Denzille Lane, Dublin 2, Ireland

The Society endeavours to promote all aspects of education and training in research, development, and clinical management of chronic pain problems. The Irish Pain Society believes that every individual suffering from a chronic pain condition has the right to access appropriate information for the better understanding of his/her/their condition. The Society believes all patients should have access to the highest possible standard of care, from appropriately trained clinicians to facilities adequately equipped to meet their needs. Chronic pain classification (ICD-11), developed by a task force of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), is based on current scientific evidence and the biopsychosocial model. In accordance with ICD-11 and IASP definitions of varying types of chronic pain syndromes, the Irish Pain Society endeavours to promote public awareness of the multifactorial nature of chronic pain, which can adversely impact quality of life for patients and their families. The Irish Pain Society believes that greater recognition and understanding is required at the government level so sufficient resources are made available to meet the needs of patients suffering from this condition.
