2023 North American Pain School

Date

18 June 202323 June 2023

Apply to Attend the 2023 North American Pain School (NAPS) by 27 January
Pain and Time: Acute Pain, Chronic Pain, and Acute-to-Chronic Pain Transitioning

The North American Pain School (NAPS) brings together leading experts in the fields of pain research and management to provide a unique educational and networking experience for the next generation of basic science and clinical pain researchers. We offer opportunities for scientific education, professional development, and connections with peers in a setting far removed from the lab and steeped in the character and culture of Quebec.

This year’s program will have the theme Pain and Time: Acute Pain, Chronic Pain, and Acute-to-Chronic Pain Transitioning and bring together 30 trainees with six dynamic, internationally recognized pain investigators from around the world and NAPS permanent faculty for an intensive four-day workshop.

Who Should Apply?

NAPS is open to graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and clinician-scientists enrolled full-time in a pain research training program. Selections will be based primarily on scientific merit and motivation, but with consideration for demographics and need. Note that selected applicants will need to be available for the full length of the event.

Supporting Documents

  • Letter of interest: Please provide a 1-page letter summarizing your research and/or career interests and how you believe attending NAPS will help you pursue these interests.
  • Resume / CV: Any format and length
  • Letters of recommendation (sent separately by sponsors, see details on the application page)
    • Grad students: one (1) letter from your current advisor
    • Postdocs and clinical fellows: two (2) letters, including one from your current advisor

Please note that all NAPS applicants must be trainee members of IASP before applying.

Registration and Travel

The registration fee for NAPS is a non-refundable US$500 and covers food, accommodation, and all on-site activities and workshops. Ground transportation (by bus) from Montreal airport to Chateau Montebello and from Chateau Montebello to Montreal airport will be provided. Travel stipends for airfares only, worth US$750 for participants located in North America and US$1000 for participants located outside of North America, are available soon after the conclusion of NAPS (with the provision of receipts), courtesy of ACTTION.

Once your complete application has been received and processed, your application file is passed to the Executive Committee, which will base its evaluation on the submitted documents (letter of interest, resume, and letters of recommendation).
