-ALiVE Theater- IASP Virtual Series on Pain & Expo: The Social-Psycho-Bio Model: What Does this Mean for the Lived Experience of Pain?
March 11, 2021
Pain is a universal human experience. How we experience pain is not only biological but deeply embedded in the social and psychological aspects of our beings. However, since the Age of Enlightenment pain has been primarily studied and explained through a biological lens. Pain is subjective and often difficult to explain, describe or communicate our lived experience to others within a biological framework. Our workshop will explore the biopsychosocial model of pain by flipping it to a social-psycho-bio model and discuss ways in which patients, providers and carers can better understand, communicate and empower eachother in managing pain more effectively and compassionately. Through interactive art, mindfulness exercises and patient-centered technology, our diverse panel of experts will engage the audience in experiential and didactic learning as we explore the social-psycho-bio model of pain for the lived experience of pain.
