A brief description of your work and interests in the pain field:
Over the course of my career, I have been fortunate to obtain a very broad perspective on pain research. I started by performing single-unit electrophysiological and imaging studies in animals, then moved on to perform imaging and psychophysical studies in mostly healthy adults, and have now entered a new phase in my career by extending my research into children with chronic pain. As my career has progressed, I have become more aware of the need to make research available to patients, providers, and payers in order to improve both practice and policy.

A brief statement of why you are interested in running for the position:
IASP has provided me with critical insights into the importance of the international perspective into pain research and treatment. Different governments and cultures view and treat pain very differently, and there is much to be learned from different models and perspectives on pain. IASP provides an essential mechanism for bridging international gaps through the World Congress on Pain, collaborative research grants, PAIN, and PAIN Reports. As a Councilor, I would now have the opportunity to serve the pain community by fostering different initiatives to amplify international collaborations and the exchange of ideas.
