I am a basic (but increasingly translational) pain scientist studying individual differences in pain and analgesia (genetics, sex differences, and environmental factors), with strong interests as well in the development and refinement of assays and measures of pain in laboratory animals. Recent experiments have focused on social modulation of pain in mice and humans. I am also very interested in trends and controversies in the field.
