Anna Maria Aloisi MD, PhD

Associate Professor, University of Siena, Italy; Director, Department of Physiology; Director, European Pain School, University of Siena

Candidate Statement

My involvement in pain research is confirmed by the number of papers published in high impact journals. In addition to the activity carried out in my lab, I always considered the promotion of pain research, with particular attention to the study of sex differences. I participated in many activities related with pain at experimental, clinical and political levels, experiences that can be useful for the participation requested in IASP.

Professional Background

I started to deal with the study of pain mechanisms in experimental male and female subjects. The main focus was on the role played by gonadal hormones in CNS modulation of pain pathways. My research continued with original experiments on sex differences in pain. More recently the interactions among pain, gonadal hormones and opioids were also considered. Together with Prof. Zimmermann I founded the European Pain School, word widely recognized for its high value in pain research teaching.
