In Memoriam: Mohamed Omar Tawfik

IASP members around the world are remembering a dear friend and respected colleague, Prof. Mohamed Omar Tawfik, who passed away on June 25. An active member of our association since 1979, most recently he was the President of the IASP chapter in Egypt, the Egyptian Society for the Management of Pain (ESMP).

Prof. Tawfik served on the IASP Council from 1999 to 2005, and as a member of the IASP Scientific Program Committee from 1996 to 1999 in preparation for the 9th World Congress on Pain in Vienna (1999). He was a professor and Head of the Pain Unit at the National Cancer Institute at Cairo University, and his primary areas of specialty were anesthesiology and pain management. Prof. Tawfik was a noted expert, speaker, and author on a range of topics, including cancer pain management, immunosuppression, and paraneoplastic neuropathy.
