In Memoriam: Ladislav Vyklicky

Dr. Ladislav Vyklicky passed away on November 23, 2008, in Prague, Czech Republic. A founding member of IASP, Vyklicky served on the IASP Council from 1976 to 1978, and again from 1987 to 1990. He was active on multiple IASP committees from 1986 to 1987, including the Ad Hoc Committee on Ethical Issues, the Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Members in Countries with Currency Restrictions, and the Ad Hoc Subcommittee on New Members. Later, he chaired the Financial Aid Committee for the Adelaide (1990) Congress.
Vyklicky was a pioneer in the Eastern European pain-research community and mentored several pain neuroscientists. He served as director of the Institute of Physiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences for 10 years, from 1970 to 1980. According to his friends and colleagues at the Institute, the devoted researcher was “working in the lab until two days before his death at an age of 84.”
