Professor David Niv was found shot and killed on Tuesday, February 6, in his car in Ramat Gan, Tel Aviv, Israel. Police do not know the motive for the tragic killing.

Professor Niv was one of the leading experts in the field of pain therapy. He served as a council member of IASP and was president of the Israel Pain Association, the European Federation of IASP Chapters (EFIC), and the World Institute of Pain. He was Director of the Multidisciplinary Pain Control Unit and Pain Research Laboratory, Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, and Professor of Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at Tel-Aviv University. In his work and his research, he was devoted to helping patients suffering from chronic pain.
