Message from the LAC Chair
It is a great honor and pleasure to invite you to the 16th World Congress on Pain, the first such congress in IASP’s history to be held in Asia. Members of Local Arrangements Committee, the Japanese Association for the Study of Pain, which is the host chapter, and the Japanese pain community cordially welcome delegates from all over the world.
The World Congress on Pain is the Olympics for the people involved in pain research and treatment. Although our backgrounds and resources may be very different, we all face common challenges in providing the very best treatment to our patients. An important purpose of the Congress is to provide opportunities for scientists, clinicians, health-care providers from around the world to communicate with one another and learn from the world’s foremost scientists.
Yokohama has been the nation’s key entry point for international trade and communications, bringing global perspectives, new ideas, and multiculturalism since Japan opened its doors to the world in 19th century. Yokohama is the second largest city in Japan, located 30 minutes from Tokyo by train or car, and two hours by the bullet train to Kyoto, Japan’s attractive and famous old capital. Today, Yokohama not only has world-class convention facilities and delightful places to visit but many great restaurants and cafes, great shopping, friendly people, and a comfortable pace of life.
There is an extensive range of accommodations to suit all tastes and budgets and easy access to all of the popular areas. Yokohama certainly provides the IASP community with a wonderful venue and a truly exciting cultural experience. If that is not enough, we will ensure a social schedule with something for everyone. So come along, bring your friends and family, and don’t miss this exciting event!
