About IASP Press®
In 1993, IASP started IASP Press, introducing the first book in early
1994. The association decided to undertake book publishing in order to
provide timely high-quality, low-cost publications relevant to the
problem of pain. The Press produces an average of 4-5 books per
year.
In 2008-09, IASP Press employed consultants to assist with two
studies – one focusing on distribution and licensing rights and
the second focusing on acquisitions. After reviewing the reports, the
current Editor-in-Chief (EIC), along with four IASP councilors and
the IASP staff involved in book production, developed a new strategic
plan for IASP Press. As the publication world is rapidly
evolving, we will have an exciting opportunity to bring IASP Press
into the electronic publication world.
Goals of IASP Press:
- Promote pain education for clinicians, professionals,
members/non-members
- Be more geared toward a general professional audience (less
specialized)
- Be aligned with overall IASP mission
Key Strategies:
- Develop and implement an acquisitions plan that includes target
audience and topics
- Develop and implement a targeted marketing strategy
- Implement more effective distribution channels
- Understand, develop, and implement e-Publishing strategy
- Assure optimum use of resources (Human, Systems, Financial)
