Support Programs and Funds
IASP aims to stimulate and support the study of pain and to translate
that knowledge into improved pain relief worldwide. The following
programs and funds help us to work toward that goal:
Adopt-A-University Library Program
IASP partners with libraries all over the world. Monies
collected through this program assist with sending copies of
PAIN, Pain: Clinical Updates, and IASP Press books to
these libraries.
Developing Countries Education Fund
Donations to this fund support the IASP
Developing Countries Project: Initiative for Improving Pain
Education. The goal of this grant project is to improve the scope
and availability of essential education for pain clinicians of all
disciplines, taking into account specific local needs. Awards are up to
US$10,000 each year.
John J. Bonica Trainee Fellowship Fund
The John J. Bonica Trainee Fellowship was established in 1998 in memory
of the
founder of IASP. Through grants, this fund supports trainees working
in all aspects of pain research. Awards are up to US$50,000 each
year.
Philip A. Spiegel IASP Congress Trainee Scholarship
Fund
IASP and family and friends of Philip A. Spiegel established a new
trainee scholarship named after a young medical researcher and IASP
member who died in late 2010. The Philip A. Spiegel IASP Congress
Trainee Scholarship will be awarded every other year to a trainee
attending IASP's biennial Congress.
Sponsor-A-Member Program
Donations to this program financially assist physicians and
clinicians from developing countries so they can receive full
benefits of membership in IASP.
IASP General Fund
Monies collected through this fund support the general day-to-day
activities of the IASP Secretariat.
Members of IASP can contribute to these programs and funds via
the online
dues payment system (you will not need to re-pay dues in order
to make a contribution) or by contacting members@iasp-pain.org.
Non-members who wish to contribute to these programs and funds should
contact IASPdesk@iasp-pain.org for more
information.
Volunteer Your Time
IASP relies on its members to volunteer their time on the various
committees, working groups, and task forces that come together to
address the policy and operating issues of the society. Once every two
years, IASP will issue a "Call for Volunteers" asking members to help
with the many tasks IASP has to do. If you have an interest in
volunteering, please watch for an email announcing the call.
Occasionally, the Council and/or IASP President may form an ad hoc task
force to work on a particular issue. If you have the willingness to help
and the necessary experience, we may be asking you.
