What is the International
Association for the Study of Pain?
The International Association for the Study
of Pain (IASP) is the leading professional forum for science, practice,
and education in the field of pain. Membership in IASP is open to all
professionals involved in research, diagnosis or treatment of pain. IASP
has more than 7,900 members in 133 countries and 90 national
chapters.

How can I contribute to
IASP?
IASP aims to stimulate and support the study
of pain and to translate that knowledge into improved pain relief
worldwide. Contributions to our Programs and Funds help us work toward that goal.
Members of IASP can contribute to these programs and funds along with
their annual dues, or by contacting members@iasp-pain.org.
Non-members who wish to contribute to these programs and funds should

IASP retains the copyright to items appearing
in PAIN, Pain: Clinical Updates, IASP
Newsletter, IASP e-Newsletter, books published by IASP
Press, and the content of this website. For permission to use, reprint,
or translate figures, tables, excerpts, or full texts of any IASP
publication, please complete our Copyright Permissions Request Form.

Why should I join IASP?

How much does it cost to become
a member?
Annual membership dues for IASP range from
US$40 to US$200 for regular membership and are dependent on your level

How can I become a member of
IASP?
Joining is easy with our online membership application! If you prefer, you
can still complete the appropriate membership forms and return them to IASP as an email
attachment, by fax, or by post.

Why do I need to log on to the
IASP website?
A number of services and materials are only
available to members of IASP, and you need to log on to access them. For
instance, you can access the full text of articles in PAIN, pay
your dues, update your mailing address, search the member directory, and
get member discounts on book purchases.

How do I log on?
Enter your username and password in the upper
right-hand corner of any page on the website. If you are not logged in
and you choose an item that is accessible to members only, or if you buy
a book in the IASP Press Bookstore, you will be prompted to log
on.

How do I participate in the
discussion forums?
As part of our ongoing process of improving
benefits to our members, IASP is currently reviewing the functionality
of our forums to ensure they meet the needs of our members. During this
review, we will close the IASP Members discussion forum. Special
Interest Group forums will not be affected at this time.

Where can I pay my membership
dues?
To pay your annual dues online, visit "Pay Your
Dues" in the Members Only section. To ensure that your benefits of
membership continue uninterrupted, make sure to pay your dues by your
anniversary date each year.

To update your profile information, visit "Edit
Your Member Profile" in the Members Only section. If you are not

PAIN
What is PAIN?
PAIN is the official journal of IASP.
IASP publishes 12 issues per year of original research on the nature,
mechanisms and treatment of pain. This peer-reviewed journal provides a
forum for the dissemination of research in the basic and clinical
sciences of multidisciplinary interest.

member discount on books?
When placing an order through the IASP
Bookstore, you will be prompted to log in or create a new account. At
this point, be sure to log in with your IASP member login information.
This will ensure that you receive the member discount on your purchase.

Can I publish a book with IASP
Press?
IASP Press accepts book proposals throughout
the year at books@iasp-pain.org. For more

I received a wrong or damaged book.
What should I do?
When an incorrect or damaged book is received,
your order will be reshipped. Depending on your situation, the incorrect
or damaged book may be picked up or returned at no cost to
you. Contact books@iasp-pain.org to discuss
your order.

I need to cancel or return my order.
How can I do this?
Contact books@iasp-pain.org to discuss
your order and the condition of your books. If your order has not yet
been shipped, we can cancel your order and reimburse you for the
purchase price. If your book has been opened and the plastic wrap has
been removed, we are not able to resell the book and you will not be
reimbursed for your order.

What is the World Congress on
Pain?
The World Congress on Pain is IASP’s biennial
meeting devoted to research and treatment of pain. It is five days of
refresher courses, plenary sessions, workshops, posters sessions,
networking opportunities, commercial exhibits, and continuing
education.

The 15th World Congress on Pain will be held October 7-11,
2014, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Global Year Against Pain
What is the Global Year Against
Pain?
The Global Year Against Pain is a yearlong initiative
designed to raise awareness of the different aspects of pain worldwide.
Each year, on the third Monday of October, IASP launches a new campaign
focused on one specific aspect of pain.

Year Against Visceral Pain campaign was launched on October 15,
2012.

Grants and Fellowships
I am not a member of IASP. Are IASP
grants and fellowships available to me?
Membership in IASP is a requirement for
eligibility for all IASP grants and fellowships. For the collaborative
grants, the principal investigator must be a member of IASP. See

information.

How do I apply for a grant or
fellowship from IASP?
From the Grants and
Awards page, select the grant or fellowship in which you are
interested. The link will take you to a page with a full description of
the requirements and instructions on how to apply, including the
necessary Word document.

Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
What is a Special Interest
Group?
A Special Interest Group (SIG) provides
participating members with an opportunity to carry on intensive,
in-depth discussion in certain areas of interest. Membership in the SIGs
is only open to members of IASP.

Is there a benefit to joining a
SIG?
Members of the SIGs receive the SIG newsletter,
may be eligible for reduced registration for SIG-sponsored meetings, and
have the unique opportunity to network with other SIG members through
the IASP Discussion Forums.

Interest Group (SIG). How do I do that?
If you are currently an IASP member you can do
so when you next pay your annual membership dues. If you have any
questions or would like to join sooner, please contact members@iasp-pain.org.If
you are not a member of IASP but are interested in joining one of our
SIGs, you must become a member of IASP. Visit our Membership page to learn more about membership
in IASP and to join online.

Chapters
What are chapters of IASP?
Chapters of IASP are national or regional
associations or societies that share IASP’s vision of working
together for pain relief throughout the world. IASP provides support for
its chapters and their activities.

the chapter in my country?

page for a full list of IASP chapters. If your country is not listed, a
chapter has not yet been formed there.

How can I form a chapter?
You must first establish a local pain
association or organization in your country, if one does not already
exist. Your membership must include at least 25 IASP members (10 for
qualifying countries). A request letter must be signed by the active
IASP members in the applicant group and attached to the application. Click here for more information.
