IASP® Research Symposia
Grant: Up to
US$40,000
Application Deadline:
March 15, 2010 (for a symposium to be held in 2011)
Purpose:
This program, established in 1998, sponsors research symposia on topics
of interest to basic scientists and clinical researchers. Each
symposium may be followed by a state-of-the-art volume
covering the topic of the meeting.
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must be members of IASP.
Guidelines:
- One symposium will take place each year, except during the years of
the IASP World Congress on Pain and will be named the “Nth IASP
Research Symposium” adding the specific title of the
symposium.
- Each symposium will focus in depth on one specific topic of pain
research, covering several approaches and points of view. The symposia
are not intended to address very general topics or those usually
addressed by a more general meeting.
- Each symposium will last for a maximum of three days, will include
not more than 25 speakers, and will be attended by not more than 200
people.
- The organizer(s) must be prepared to complete a proposal for IASP
Press Advisory Board approval, for a book of 250–400 printed pages
comprising contributions from those presenting papers at the symposium.
If the proposal is accepted, the book will be intended for publication
by IASP Press within a year of the date of the meeting. The organizer(s)
will sign a publishing contract with IASP Press and will review
manuscripts and submit them to the Press not later than 4 months after
the symposium.
- The IASP Fellowships, Grants and Awards Working Group will
evaluate all proposals according to:
- topics of current interest to both basic and clinical pain
researchers;
- a well-balanced program of topics and speakers;
- participation of both young and senior investigators with a
reasonably wide geographical distribution.
- IASP will provide financial support up to a maximum of US$40,000.
Evidence of supplementary funding by other public or private agencies
and organizations and a detailed budget must be presented before the
release of IASP funds to the organizer(s).
- IASP sponsorship will be in the form of a grant to the organizer's
institution. Eighty percent of the grant will be paid on approval of the
symposium by IASP and 20% immediately after the meeting if needed,
following the submission of a full financial statement to IASP. IASP
will not accept any liability for financial losses.
- The organizer(s) will use a proportion of the IASP grant or other
funds to enable the attendance of speakers and participants from
developing and currency-restricted countries. The scope of this
participation will be left to the discretion of the organizers, taking
into account the topic of the meeting and the feasibility of travel to
the meeting location.
- After the symposium, the organizers will provide a brief report to
be published in a subsequent IASP Newsletter.
