IASP^® Award for Excellence in Pain Research and Management

Award:

• Free registrations and a travel grant for applicants from low income countries (per the World Bank List) of up to US$10,000 toward the cost of attending the next World Congress on Pain.
• Three years of free membership in IASP, including a subscription to the journal PAIN, to each member of the team.
• Plaque to be presented at the next World Congress.
• Awardees' choice of three books from the IASP Press catalogue.

Nomination Deadline: October 30 of the year before a Congress

Purpose:

IASP will present an award at the IASP World Congress on Pain to an individual or to a team who has achieved a level of excellence in programs of either: (1) Basic science research in pain or pain management OR (2) Clinical research or practice and/or policy changes in pain management in the developing world. The award is intended to facilitate attendance of an individual or a small group of individuals at the IASP Congress.

This award is aimed at recognizing and promoting excellence in pain research and management in developing countries and low income countries as defined by the World Bank (see list of eligible countries).

Eligibility Requirements:

• The award can be given to a named individual or to a group of individuals forming a working team of not more than five individuals.
• The award will recognize excellence in a pain research or management program developed and carried out only within the setting of one or more of the eligible countries.
• The principal organizer must be based in a developing country and must be a member of IASP.
• There are no restrictions as to the professional qualifications, age or affiliations of the awardees.

Those who received an award from this program in the previous year are not eligible to reapply.

Nominations should include the following:
(All applications must be submitted in English.)

• A letter of nomination by an external nominating body. This can be an academic or medical non-profit organization or a group of not less than three individuals of which at least one should be a member of IASP of more than one year standing. There are no restrictions as to the geographical origin of the nominating bodies. The letter should a) explain the reasons for the nomination and the work carried out by the nominee(s), b) state whether the nomination is for the Clinical or the Basic science award.
• A list of the nominees, including their Curriculum Vitae and their individual contributions to the program.
• Documented evidence of the work carried out in the program. This could be reprints of research papers, documents explaining the work carried out in the field of pain or any other documented endorsement of the program. Please do NOT send videos, books, photos, DVDs or CDs as the nominations are adjudicated by an international committee.

Nominations will be reviewed by the Fellowships, Grants and Awards Working Group and the recommendations are subject to approval by the IASP Council.
