Troels S. Jensen, MD, DMSc (Denmark)
Troels Staehelin Jensen, MD, DMSc, is a Consultant in Neurology at
Aarhus University Hospital and Professor of Experimental and Clinical
Pain Research at Aarhus University in Aarhus, Denmark, and director of
the Neuropathic Pain Clinic. He obtained his degree of Doctor of Medical
Sciences from the University of Aarhus on work conducted in part at the
Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA. He completed his postgraduate
clinical fellowship at la Salpetrière Hospital in Paris, France,
and his residency in neurology at university hospitals in Aarhus and
Copenhagen. He has obtained research fellowships in the United States
and guest professorships in other countries, including Germany.
Dr. Jensen has authored more than 300 articles in journals and books
on various neurological and neurobiological topics, mainly related to
experimental and clinical pain. He has received several awards and
honors for his pain research, including the Nis-Hanssen Pain Research
Award (1986), the NATO Science Fellowship (1992), and the Norwegian
Monrad-Krohn Research Award (1997). In 2002, he gave the first P.D. Wall
Lecture of the British Pain Society. In 2006, he was knighted by the
Queen of Denmark.
Dr. Jensen's research interests include neurophysiology,
neuropharmacology, and mechanisms and treatment of neuropathic and
muscle pain. He has served as Section Editor for the journal
PAIN® and serves on the editorial boards of other
journals. He is a reviewer for several international journals and grant
committees. Dr. Jensen was President of the Scandinavian Association for
the Study of Pain from 1989 to 1994 and has been a member of the IASP
Council since 1996.
