096:137  Nursing Care of the Patient in Pain - 3 s.h.

Provides advanced content in the area of pain management useful to experienced practitioners and students preparing for the field. Content will focus on assessment, pharmacological and non-pharmacological nursing intervention, and evaluation of acute, chronic benign, and chronic malignant pain.  There will be no clinical component to this course.  Requirements include 3 online exams.

Students should have a recent model Macintosh or a Pentium class PC with a minimum of 28K modem access.  You will need to download RealAudio (free) or employ a similar program in order to access audio files.

Location: You may participate from any location that allows access to the World Wide Web. There is NO classroom attendance required.

Prerequisites: Registered nurse license or completion of 096:134 Basic Concepts of Care or equivalent, or 096:121 Foundations of nursing Practice or equivalent.

Tuition: The course is for three semester hours.  $181 per semester hour for undergraduates,  or $280 per semester hour for graduates  billed by the University of Iowa. Billing may be paid in full r with minimum monthly payments throughout the semester's billing cycle (September-October-November), in which case $20 deferred payment fee will be added to your November 1 billing.
A limited number of tuition scholarships based on financial need are available to part-time students enrolled in UI distance education courses.  For information, contact the Center for Credit Programs.
