THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION WAS MARCH 31, 2009. PROPOSALS ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED.

The following Call for Presentation Proposals is also available in PDF format.  Download PDF file now.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Please observe the following general guidelines:

  1. Topical Workshops are 1.5 hours long and include a maximum of three speakers (three speakers, one of which may include the organizer).  They are required to be interactive and should be designed to provide an update of the subject matter, including current controversies, via short presentations (total maximum time of 60 minutes) and floor discussion/question period (of at least 30 minutes). The organizer of a Topical Workshop must be an IASP member.
  2. Topical Symposia are 1.5 hours long and include a maximum of three speakers (three speakers, one of which may include the organizer).  These sessions are focused on a select topic and each presenter provides a 25 minute presentation with limited opportunity for audience participation.  The organizer of a Topical Symposium must be an IASP member.
  3. Plenary Lectures are 25 minutes in length, highlighting topics of current relevance in the field of pain.  Several plenary lectures are delivered each day of the Congress at morning and afternoon sessions to all delegates.  Only IASP members can nominate a plenary lecturer.  No self-nominations will be considered.
  4. As the Congress is multidisciplinary, all presentations should address both basic science and clinical application.
  5. IASP will only accept proposals submitted online via the OASIS system.
  6. When submitting a proposal, please select the most appropriate topic and subtopic from the list provided in this Call.
  7. Do not use proprietary drug names when referring to pharmacological substances.  Only generic names of drugs are acceptable.
  8. English is the official language of the Congress.

If so, your "username" will be your e-mail address.

CONDITION OF PROPOSAL

In its efforts to ensure a well-balanced scientific program, the Scientific Program Committee reserves the right to request changes of specific speakers and/or presentations, and to make acceptance of the proposal contingent on those changes.

Those submitting Topical Workshops or Topical Symposia proposals are encouraged to seek out a diverse panel of speakers to include viewpoints from different institutions, disciplines, countries, races, ages, and genders.  Proposals demonstrating a diverse panel will be given priority consideration.

TIMELINE

  • January 2009-March 31, 2009:  Proposals are accepted via the OASIS website.
  • April-May 2009:  Scientific Program Committee reviews proposals; determines scientific content for 13th World Congress on Pain.
  • July 2009:  Program finalized and submitters informed of acceptance or rejection of their proposals.
